Note to self...

...when it's raining, it is better to take the train to work than the bus. The bus will cause travel time to double.

Last Night

I had a real good time last night. Tim and I went to go see Raising Victor Vargas with a couple of friends. We almost didn't go. I didn't think I could afford it. But I get paid on Wednesday, and I figured I had the extra money to get in. I'm so glad we went. The movie is good. After the movie we went for a couple of beers at a place called The Duke of Perth, which is a Scottish place. I have always wanted to go there. I didn't realize it was only a couple of blocks from the theater. I had this great elderberry black ale. Yum!

I wore my Hartford Whalers jersey yesterday for the first time in at least 3 or 4 years. I have decided I'm going to actively start wearing my older hockey jerseys again. I got compliments on my Whalers jersey. I guess people just don't see them around much, since the team was sold and moved to North Carolina a few years ago. Yay for my Whalers jersey!

I went to the Cubs game today with my dad. I love going to baseball games with my dad.

There was a group of old men 2 rows in front of us. But one of them refused to sit in the row with them. He was sitting in the row behind them (in front of us) in some empty seats. Eventually all the seats but one was full. He had to keep moving around. And at one point, when he was trying to get back to the row, he was blocking kids from getting into my row. I don't understand why he just didn't sit in the row with his friends. It would have made it so much easier.

In the row in front of us was a young father and his daughter, who was probably 4 or 5. She was so cute. And watching them made me want to cry. This father was just like the way my father was with me when I was little, not just taking me to baseball games, but just the way he was with me in general. There was one point toward the end of the game when there was a pitching change. "YMCA" was playing over the loudspeaker. And the father had the little girl on his lap, facing him. And he was helping her dance. He held her hands and was moving her arms around the exact same way my father used to. And when the song was over he gave her a big hug, just like my dad would have. I wanted to cry. It was so sweet. And there I was sitting with my dad, and I really wished I was little again and I could sit on his lap and he could help me dance.

Yesterday was a great day. I was going to go to the Cubs game, and decided to go to a cafe for a couple of hours near Wrigley Field to study. I ended up in this cafe I had been to before, a couple of years ago. That time I was there to see a musician, but that room was too full. That place was cute, but packed. Yesterday it was nearly empty, which isn't surprising considering I was there at 10 in the morning. It was a great place to study. There was great music (Jimi Hendrix, Aimee Mann, and Flaming Lips CDs). I had a latte, which was only okay, but I had this great pear kiwi tea. Yum!

There were 2 guys in there. At first I thought they were academics. They just had that interesting crazy professor look about them, and they each had numerous books with them. The only book I could see from where I was sitting was a book about Mark Twain. Anyway, sometimes I would hear parts of their conversation. One guy talked much more than the other. I think he was trying to get the other guy to join a cult or something. Seriously. He was talking about all this meditating and prayer, and this workshop and movies that were shown, stuff like that. It was odd. They seemed like regulars.

I met my dad, stepmom, and my stepmom's brother for the game. We went to a sports bar across the street from Wrigley to get a beer before the game. Then we went inside the ballpark. It was cold, but not too bad. I had another beer there, as it's a baseball game. It's kinda mandatory. We had such a great time. It's been a long time since I went to a game like that with my family. My dad often gives me tickets to go with someone else, but it's been a while since we all went together. I enjoyed it so much. My dad has 2 tickets for next Thursday's game, and my stepmom can't go, so I'm going to that one too.

Anyway, after the game we went to an Italian restaurant across the street. It was so good. It's one of those places you always see, always think it would be good to try, but never do. I was very impressed. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm back in school and have no money I would go there more often.

Yesterday we went to Michigan City to see Tim's parents. Actually, we went because Tim had a doctor's appointment today. But I like visiting his parents. And it's nice to go the night before so we aren't rushing in and out. We ate at Red Lobster last night. I studied all day and Tim went to the doctor. Then we went to the outlet mall. I got a pair of New Balance walking shoes. The soles of my current pair are starting to wear down, and I am using them both for walking and just whenever. I wanted to have a pair just for exercise, so they won't wear down as fast. So I got a new pair. I will keep my old ones to just wear around.

Michigan City is only like 90 minutes from here, but it's amazing how just getting out of the city for that little bit of time really recharges your batteries and such. Yesterday was my friend's son's birthday party. I feel like it was so long ago, like at least 3 or 4 days ago. And it was only yesterday (or I guess the day before since it's now after midnight). I couldn't believe it.

Bathroom Update

The building manager came in while I was at work. The light in the bathroom was fixed. The entire switch was changed. It now goes on and off normally! Also, downstairs at the elevator, there was a sign saying the water would be off Thursday morning. Perhaps to fix my ceiling problem? I hope so.

In other news...

...it took me forever to get home. I had to wait forever for a bus, and the first one that came along was so full I couldn't even get on it. I had to wait a long time for the next one.

...I am supposed to go to Walgreen's tonight. There's a lot on sale. But I'm still cold from waiting outside so long (it was warm during lunch, so I left my jacket in my bag when I went to go home). Maybe I will go. Maybe I won't. Perhaps I will wait until tomorrow.

...there was a weird guy at lunch today. I went to this little Mexican place and sat at the counter. He was wearing a male version of my outfit (khaki pants, sage green top). He had red hair too. He finished eating before I did, and sat there watching me until I was done. When I got up to go, so did he. He followed me out. I ducked into a women's accessories store a couple of doors down. And yes, I was going to go in there anyway, but at least he didn't follow me in.
