055/366 - Not smart
The weather in Chicago was relatively nice for February. The key words in that last sentence were "relatively" and "for February." Apparently the high temperature this afternoon was in the upper 30's. Compared to recent weather that's nice. But, really, it's not all that warm.
I arrived at the Starbucks on the corner of Lawrence and Broadway a little after 1:00 pm. From the time I arrived until the time I left a few hours later there was a steady stream of people who were coming in to get warm drinks who were waiting to get into the Riviera for a concert tonight. It seemed as if most of these people did not have coats on. Many wore just hoodies, some had only short sleeves. They came in to get a warm beverage and/or use the restroom, then went back out and stood in line. I'm guessing doors were at 5:00, so some of these people were there for a few hours. Without a coat.
As I said, it's nice day for February, but...
I've stood in line before general admission shows many times. Most of the venues I go to have coat checks (I don't recall if the Riviera does or not), or I try to get in early so I'm along the barrier and can lay my coat on it. At first I thought maybe I'm getting old, but even at a young age I don't think I stood in line for a show in winter without a coat. What are these kids thinking?
Clearly I took this picture from inside the Starbucks, given that you can see the dirty window marks in the shot.

051/366 - Huh?
Yes, I am aware that this is a truly terrible photo. I was on the phone between periods, and when I looked up, this is what I saw. What is going on here? I mean, I know it was some sort of contest, but by the time I looked up I was unable to determine exactly what was happening. I'm guessing they had to get a puck in the net? I did actually see that one dude fall down. They had their backs to me, and when I first saw them, given their shape, I thought it might have been some sort of sausage race thing. From behind they look like the sausages!

038/366 - Pumpkin ravioli + stout = yum
Tonight we went to the Uncommon Ground in Edgewater for the second time. The first time was for brunch, this time it was for dinner. I think I could eat this pumpkin ravioli every day and not get sick of it. Yum!

Are you watching JBTV?
I used to watch JBTV all the time when I was much younger, but somewhere along the line I stopped. I happened to catch it again a few weeks ago. I didn't even realize it was still on the air, but it is. So imagine my delight when I found Chicagoist's interview with Jerry Bryant!
Dear Mother Nature,
I was happy to see that you decided to give us a couple of warm days to melt all of that snow you dumped on us last week.
It was very nice of you to get it out of the way for us, even if it meant having to break the Olympic long jump record in order to cross the street because of the several-inches-deep puddles of slush and muddy water at every street corner.
So what is this I'm hearing about you sending us another foot of snow over the next 24 hours? Just as you melt our snow you replace it? And I was thinking you were being nice to us.
Do you have bipolar disorder? Perhaps it's time for you to seek professional help.
Love,
Me

What a weird time to be working
Last night we went to my friends' home to watch the Super Bowl. Around 7:30, I think during a commercial, I looked out the window and this is what I saw:
If you look closely on the platforms you will see people. Working on a crane.
At 7:30 on a Sunday night.
In a snowstorm.
During the Super Bowl.
What?
I'm very glad I didn't have to do that. As if it wasn't bad enough that it was on Super Bowl Sunday, can you imagine climbing up on that thing in the snow? We watched them for a while, climbing up and down between platforms in the snow. That didn't look like fun.
