The City with Three Rivers (No, Not That One)

Last weekend my mother and I drove up to Milwaukee.

The first thing we did upon our arrival (after eating lunch) was to take the Skywaukee tour. The great thing about this tour is that it takes place in the skywalk system, so you are indoors the whole time. It was nice out on Saturday, but generally this tour takes place during the cooler months, so being inside is a good thing. The tour included a lot of information about the architecture in downtown Milwaukee, as well as some history. It was very interesting.

After that we drove over to the Milwaukee Art Museum. It was later in the afternoon, so we didn't purchase admission to the museum since we wouldn't have time to see very much. We went inside the gift shop, and walked around the lobby and such. There were workers setting up for a wedding and reception inside, and outside there were several wedding parties taking pictures. The museum is beautiful, and what makes it even better is that it is right by the lake.

I would love to go back and spend time out there, as well actually get to see some exhibits. The Masters of American Comics exhibit just opened, and I'm sure Tim would want to see that, so maybe we will drive back up there.

Sunday morning we went to mass at the Basilica of Saint Josaphat. Incredible. It was one of the most beautiful churches I have ever been in. Absolutely amazing. I can't even describe it. I wanted to take pictures in there, but people were praying, so I thought it would be disrespectful. Take it from me, if you are ever in Milwaukee and have a chance of visiting this basilica, do it. You won't regret it. The reader announced that there would be a tour of the basilica after mass, but we had tickets for a museum exhibit, so we couldn't stay. I think both my mother and I were a bit disappointed by that because it would have been great to see some of the art up close, in a way that you can't when you are sitting in a pew.

After mass we hurried over to the Milwaukee Public Museum. The whole reason we decided to go to Milwaukee in the first place was to see the Saint Peter and the Vatican: The Legacy of the Popes exhibit there. It was very interesting, and well worth the money. There was plenty of beautiful art, vestiments, etc., to see, but it was also a history lesson.
