Flight of the Conchords - Chicago Theatre - May 14, 2008

Sold Out

I didn't really know what to expect when when I went to see Flight of the Conchords live last week. I was hoping it would be funny, but at the same time I had heard the songs so many times, would I be bored?

Arj Barker, who plays Dave on the show, opened with a stand up set which was hilarious. He introduced Flight of the Conchords, who opened with "Robots." While they played many of the songs that have appeared on their show and albums, there were some small differences that made the songs funny. Also, there was something different about seeing the songs performed in person. Even though I had seen videos of the same songs performed in person many times, it's not the same as seeing them onstage yourself. They also did a couple of new songs, as well as songs that, while not new, I don't think were quite as well known.

In between the songs they would banter, and it was pretty much what you would expect. It was their humor, awkward and naive. Many girls in the audience were yelling things at the guys, but they seemed really shocked when a guy in the crowd asked them to take off their pants. I don't think they had heard that one before.

Here is "Albi the Racist Dragon":
