It's almost here!

Main gate

Yeah, that was taken last year. Apparently I got our wristbands so early this year (today) that the big Lollapalooza balloon wasn't there yet. The structure of the gate was there, but the banners and balloons were not.

I'm still not 100% who all I want to see, which I guess is good. That leaves it a little open for discovery to occur. But somehow I don't feel prepared this year. I am not sure why.

I'm over the fact that I won't be able to see many of the bands on Friday. It's okay. I will see the two bands on Friday that I want to see most: Bloc Party and Radiohead. Between work for the rest of the week, Lollapalooza, and the after show show, I think I will be exhausted.

Gotham City? Says who?

It was hard for me to believe that The Dark Knight took place in Gotham City when Chicago featured so prominently. I even saw the building I was in watching the movie in the film.

I loved it, though.

Do you have plans for New Year's Day 2009?

Horrible incident

As I was on my way home from work yesterday, the train conductor announced that our train wouldn't be stopping at Argyle because of a horrible incident. Those were the words he used, "horrible incident". The train was going to go from Lawrence to Berwyn.

I thought the woman sitting in front of me was going to explode. She let out a long, exasperated sigh, and then shook her head angrily for at least the next 30 seconds. Apparently Argyle is her stop, and she seemed very put out at the inconvenience of having to get off the train at Lawrence or Berwyn and walking.

Seriously? At the time I didn't know what happened, but I was pretty sure a life had been lost. And I've walked between Lawrence and Argyle enough times to know that it really isn't far. Eventually she stopped shaking her head, but I think she started up again when the train got closer to Lawrence and she was getting ready to exit the train.

I'm not the most positive person on earth. But I would like to think that if 10 minutes of walking was added to my commute because of a horrible incident, I wouldn't be nearly as huffy as this woman was. I'm glad I don't live in her head. What have we come to, when we get that exasperated over something like that?

Saturday Blues Dinner

I love that I can go out to dinner on a Saturday night and listen to blues music while I eat.

Less than 3 weeks!!!

I'm well over the disappointment at not being able to get to Lollapalooza until late Friday afternoon or early Friday evening because I won't have the day off work. There are a few bands I want to see during that time, but I got into the habit of looking at the schedule from 5:30 and later on Friday, and just ignoring what is below it. It stung a bit this morning when, in order to decide who he wants to see on Friday, my boyfriend asked me to play a few albums I have of some of the bands I won't be able to see. *sigh* Oh well.

The schedule for Sunday has been driving me nuts. So many conflicts!!! As of this afternoon, though, it got a bit easier. We bought tickets to Friday night's after show at the House of Blues. The Blakes and The Whigs. I will definitely get to see The Weakerthans now!!

Weirdos I've seen today

1. The Loud Talker
There is nothing more annoying than going to a little neighborhood spot for dinner, and you can't hear the conversation coming from the table of six next to you because the dude all the way at the other side of the room is talking so loudly.

2. They have to do everything the same
I was waiting outside an L stop this evening. A couple entered the station on their way to tonight's Cubs game. This particular stop has 4 turnstiles. The station was empty at the time, but instead of each going through a turnstile at the same time, they used the same one. The woman waited for the man to go through the turnstile before she went through the same one. And no, they weren't passing back the card.

3. Squeegee guy
This isn't novel, but I haven't seen a squeegee guy in years.
